Former FDIC chair McWilliams joins law firm

Jelena McWilliams, who stepped down as chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. earlier this year, has joined Cravath, Swaine & Moore as part of the law firm’s plan to open an office in Washington.

The law firm said in a press release Monday that McWilliams will be joined by Elad Roisman, former acting chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission and Jennifer Leete, former associate director in the SEC’s division of enforcement. 

McWilliams, who left the FDIC in February, will serve as the office’s managing partner. 

The new partners will advise clients across a range of industries such as financial services, fintech and emerging technology in areas that will include regulation, corporate governance and investigation matters. 

“Our clients face an increasingly complex and active regulatory environment, and our move today enhances our ability to provide the most creative advice in addressing their most challenging matters,” Faiza Saeed, Cravath’s presiding partner, said in the release. 

“With nearly half a century of combined public service, [the new partners] will bring exceptional regulatory experience, legal acumen and leadership on critical issues,” Saeed added.
